Animal-welfare funding
How we select grant recipients
WARN’s intended grant process assesses an organisation’s identity, current unmet need, ability to deliver, animal-welfare practice, budget and reporting. Raising awareness or holding a meeting does not mean a grant has been approved.
Kalimantan recipient selection is open
WARN staff are meeting organisations in Indonesia to understand needs. Funding shortfalls have been raised. No recipient has yet been selected for the Kalimantan Wildlife Fire Appeal. We welcome initial information from organisations delivering relevant work; an enquiry does not guarantee funding.
What we assess
Current unmet need
A defined location, affected animals or habitat, a dated needs assessment and what existing funding already covers. Requests should explain the remaining gap without double-counting another funder’s contribution.
Delivery and welfare
Evidence of relevant work, qualified personnel, safe operating practices and appropriate animal welfare. Wildlife handling and release need the necessary expertise and authorisation.
Budget and practical benefit
An itemised request, feasible timetable, reasonable costs and an explanation of how a smaller award could still help. Necessary staff, fuel and administration can be legitimate delivery costs.
Accountability
An agreed purpose, payment checks, receipts or other expenditure evidence, and a proportionate progress report. WARN will identify conflicts of interest and record approval decisions.
Publication and consent
Publishable grant details and permission for photographs and stories. Sensitive animal locations, personal details and bank information are not public reporting material.
What donors will be able to see
Published records will distinguish grants approved from payments made and subsequent recipient reports. Where a report is delayed, that status should be explained. See the current grant register and the appeal’s review and refund terms.
Tell us about an organisation’s needs
For an initial enquiry, include the organisation’s name and official website, location, current work, unmet needs and a rough budget. Do not send bank details, identity documents or sensitive wildlife locations through this form. Further checks will be arranged separately.
