Accessibility

Our commitment

World Animal Rescue Network is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.

What we've done

  • All images include descriptive alt text; hero and content images include width and height to reduce layout shift.
  • Colour contrast ratios meet WCAG AA standards.
  • The site is navigable by keyboard, including search results (arrow keys, Enter, Escape).
  • We use semantic HTML throughout.
  • The mobile navigation menu is a modal dialog with focus trap, Escape to close, and focus returned to the menu button.
  • The cookie consent banner is a dialog with a live region for screen reader announcements and keyboard focus management.
  • Site search has an associated label, status announcements, and keyboard navigation for results.
  • FAQ sections use native <details> and <summary> elements for accessibility.
  • Forms include associated labels; donation, contact, and memorial forms expose loading and success states to assistive technology.
  • Automated accessibility checks run in CI (static HTML audit, island pattern checks, and Playwright + axe smoke tests).

Known issues

We are a growing not-for-profit organisation with limited resources. Some pages may not yet meet all WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. We are actively working to resolve known issues.

Report an issue

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this site, please email us at [email protected] with a description of the issue and the URL of the page. We aim to respond within 5 working days.

Enforcement

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
